Just
as it is important to understand all parts of
the mind, it is also vitally important to understand
all parts of the interpretation process. The
phenomenon of dreaming becomes a practical science
when the entire concept is embraced. Dreams
are not the means to an end; they are the beginning
of self-awareness. They provide a direct link
to our inner selves, serving as a siphon to
access the enormous creative reservoirs of the
subconscious.
There
are two important ideas to keep in mind when
interpreting any dream. 1) Everything in the
dream is about you the dreamer; and 2) Everybody
in the dream is actually reflecting an aspect
of you the dreamer. In spite of the many characters
that appear in your dreams, each one represents
certain qualities that you possess.
The
five steps to working with a dream include:
Not
remembering your dreams can go back to early
childhood programming. Recall the nightmares
you had as a young child. Remember the monsters,
the blood and guts, the evil people and vicious
animals that appeared in your dreams? When awakened
by these night frights, we ran to the bedroom
of our parents, sobbing and crying uncontrollably.
Your parents may have responded like mine did,
with "Oh honey, it was only a
dream", or "It wasn't real".
Our parents did not realize the full impact
of their words. Our parent's response implied
that the dream was insignificant, and that it
was NOT real. These simple, yet powerful words
became early programming for a young impressionable
mind. To say that dreams are not real is an
incorrect statement and hardly believable by
a sobbing four year old.
If
you have not been remembering your dreams for
a long period of time, you may need to "kick
start" the recall process. The 5-step process
is a cycle of learning and awareness. Even very
short dreams with very few symbols or details
can provide great insight into what the Subconscious
is trying to communicate. Know that there are
many different types of dreams that you will
experience: recurring dreams, nightmares, health
dreams, lucid dreaming, precognitive dreams,
and flying dreams. All dreams contain valuable
information about the state of your awareness
and can create a balance within yourself. The
inner, spiritual life balanced with the outer,
conscious life is what creates wholeness.
With this sense of wholeness, we can begin to
embrace life with greater purpose and meaning.
